Ilove duck and it's variations. This one also delicious, but i think its overpriced. Additionally the mall make our visit here more expensive. If only looking for this, better at other places. Rating: 4.3/5

BBserves 2 types of sambal, while BTS (shown on pic above) gives 3 types of sambal. If you notice, they actually serve the same type of sambal. BB serves only two types because they help you to mix the shredded red shallot on the left with the cut chilies onto one plate. BTS separates the two.

7BUnCOd. Bali is famous not only for the landscape and beaches but also for its variety of food. Crispy duck is one of them. Many tourists, local and overseas flock to try the buzz on this deep fried duck. The most famous restaurants for this cuisine are Bebek Bengil BB and Bebek Tepi Sawah BTS. My task this time is to compare the two. They have many other variety dishes in the menu, but I only compare their crispy duck only. The duck’s size As you can see from the pictures below, the size is the same. They cut one duck into half, deep fried and serve it on your plate. On Par The crispinessThey both are crispy and that’s what people like about it. But I find that BTS is more crunchy and crispier than BB. But BB is definitely juicier inside. I can still taste the herbs that they season before cooking the duck. On ParSide Dishes/SaladThey both serve Balinese vegetables and BB even adds some cut oranges slices or watermelon slices on the plate. I personally like BB vegetables than BTS. Although BTS serves a generous portion of long green beans, but the taste is not to my liking, whereas BB gives just a small portion but it tastes so much better and more authentic. 1 Vs 0Sambal/condiments BB serves 2 types of sambal, while BTS shown on pic above gives 3 types of sambal. If you notice, they actually serve the same type of sambal. BB serves only two types because they help you to mix the shredded red shallot on the left with the cut chilies onto one plate. BTS separates the two. The other red brownish sambal on the right is the sweeter sambal and thus it tastes less spicy. Now, who is the winner on this sambal? I like my sambal to be spicy and BTS sambal wins me over. 1 Vs 1 The PriceThey both price it at around per plate exclude the service charge and 10% taxes. BB is slightly Rp. 3000 USD 25 cents more expensive than BTS. For me, 25 cents should not make a difference unless you are on budget, and if you do, words of warning DO NOT enter in the first place!Final VerdictSince they both receive equal mark and food tends to be very subjective to each individual preference and taste bud, my final recommendation is that for those who are fans of chilies to visit BTS and those who are not, to go to BB. But, why not try both and decide for yourself? The Place in ChargeYou can visit below website to find out more on their outlets and available menu. Bebek Tepi Sawah
Capt_LongshanksReviewed 18 May 2011 We decided to try another duck restaurant this year since we've already been to Bebek Bengil last year. Bebek Tepi Sawah has a great view of the rice paddies and although we haven't tried everything on the menu, the crispy duck was so great my friend went back the next day for a second helping. Staff were very attentive and helpful, too, which is a big plus. Will be returning to this place. Great value for money!Date of visit April 2011ValueAtmosphereServiceFoodAsk Capt_Longshanks about Bebek Tepi SawahThank Capt_Longshanks This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The restaurants sets itself in the middle of a 'sawah' / paddy field where patrons can choose to dine seated on chairs or on the wooden plank floors in small food are reasonably priced and taste amazingly delicious. If you can stand spicy food, ask triple heap of all the tiny chilli pots they provide with your main dishes. We tried both their crispy duck as well as chicken rise. As a side order, weordered a nice plate of gado-gado to food and atmosphere here are lovely. We were surprise of the service it was so quick. This restaurant specialities in duck so order duck and a pork ribs. It was delicious and the duck I had was very tender and it just the right portion. Even the Bebek Bengil/dirty duck is not better than here. This over looking rice view restaurant even made our time more enjoyable when they serve a complimentary home made coconut ice cream which we never order before and it was fantastic taste. Read our transparency report to learn 3 February 2011 In my opinion, this is the place to get the renowned Balinese crispy duck, if you are in Ubud. A couple of nights earlier, we had visited and been very disappointed with the more famous restaurant "Dirty Duck" see my review of that restaurant. Tepi Sawah restaurant is to the southeast of Ubud heading towards Goa Gajah, the elephant cave. The duck had plenty of meat on it, it was juicy not dry and the plate was filled with vegetables and rice. Two of us paid 360,000 Rp including the crispy roll starters and beer, but no dessert nor wine. The ambience was very acceptable and the staff were very I recommend Tepi Sawah and not Dirty of visit February 2011ValueAtmosphereServiceFoodAsk trimsite about Bebek Tepi Sawah2 Thank trimsite This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Lesser crowd, nice environment, with dining pavilions by the rice fields, Duck was marvellously crispy fried to perfection, somehow the pungent "duck" smell has been eradicated by their marinade of fragrant spices...Try to get the outdoor seats nearest to the rice fields, right under the coconut trees, the reward is a dining experience in serene relaxing atmosphere...Date of visit November 2012ValueAtmosphereServiceFoodAsk Adcye about Bebek Tepi SawahThank Adcye This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Read our transparency report to learn DWashington DC, District of ColumbiaReviewed November 6, 2012 After a week of venturing out to Tulamben for dives, a couple or cycling trips and chilling ou on the beach I've decided to finally try out this famous place that everyone talks about; Bebek Tepi Sawah - translation "ducks on the edge of the rice fields".Guess what their specialty is.......DUCK!Previous reviews mentions great atmosphere.....hmmmm.......if you like big impolite crowds and so-so service......I guess you'll like crispy duck is good, the sambal - chili paste/sauces that accompanies the dish can make your stomach hurt, however. I assume as a former chef i know too much the sambals are probably not refrigerated as they do come room temp. I guess when it's freshly that would've been fine, but if it has been out for a couple of hours.....well.....fermentation, acidity, etc.....rises and will wreak havoc inside your stomach hours later.....eventhough temporary this could be any case.....the food is good, the place is sorry just okay, in my opinion, the crowds.....well, you should come early and ask if you could be seated away by the rice fields for more of visit November 2012ValueAtmosphereServiceFoodAsk Cycliste D about Bebek Tepi SawahThank Cycliste D This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Been reading some reviews that stating the duck was bad, but I think it were merely because they had different taste, some people might prefer dry duck and some other might like not-so-dry. But for me, I love the duck. The paddy fields view was astonishing. It is true that the price was a bit expensive, but almost all restaurant in tourist area in Bali are over-priced their menu, so Bebek Tepi Sawah price is just fair compare to other cafe/restaurant. We spent IDR260k for Bebek betutu, Crispy duck and 2 beware of mosquitos bite if you had dinner at this place, the restaurant is providing mosquitos coil near your table, but I still got bites 2x...Date of visit November 2012ValueAtmosphereServiceFoodAsk LoisKwee about Bebek Tepi SawahThank LoisKwee This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
